Modine, a technology and indoor air quality leader in the HVAC industry, has officially confirmed that several of its HVAC products for the K-12 market are now UL60335 certified. The development comes on the back of a new regulation set to become effective from Jan. 1, 2025, and once it does, products and changes for products will need to be certified under UL60335 for new construction. Furthermore, the stated regulation will mandate that any equipment using A2L refrigerants can only be certified under UL60335. Talk about Modine products compliant under the new law, we can start from Airdale ClassMate® and SchoolMate® Unit Ventilators. These single-packaged ventilation units are air-sourced or water-source heat pumps that come with optional energy recovery and dehumidification controls. Markedly enough, the stated product is understood to be well-equipped in terms of providing a cost-effective solution for incorporating heat pump technology, while simultaneously improving classroom indoor air quality. Next up, we have the Airdale Sentinel® Vertical Unit Ventilator, which is geared towards serving all those schools that are looking to improve the IAQ of their classrooms. In practice, the stated product works alongside school’s central chiller or boiler plant to give you proper amount of fresh air ventilation but at a significantly smaller energy expense than one would expect. Anyway, moving on to Modine’s Airdale Ductless Mini-Split Ceiling Cassette, it basically conceives for you the flexibility of cooling, heating or both. Presented more like an alternative to variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, this Ductless Mini-Split Ceiling Cassette can work rather seamlessly with MERV 10 filters, and it can do so without allowing any pressure to drop. Available in a package deal with HW coils or electric heat, the product in question can be a viable option for all those classrooms, offices, laboratories or any environment where space is at a premium and low noise is essential.
“At Modine, we strive to maintain strict standards of safety, quality, and sustainability for our products,” said Joe Ellison, General Manager of Schools for the IAQ division at Modine. “By having our products tested and certified to the highest standards of safety, we are ensuring we stay compliant with regulations and meet the industry demand. Achieving UL60335 compliance now also prepares us to incorporate A2L refrigerants across our school product line, a step that prepares us for new regulations set by the American Innovation in Manufacturing Act and furthers Modine’s mission of using environmentally friendly refrigerants.”
Rounding up highlights would be the Airdale Varsity®/Valedictorian®, which is a drop-in solution meant to eliminate cross-contamination of air between classrooms versus ducted applications. Boasting a full economizer model, this particular product makes it possible for you to access outside air cooling during favorable seasons.
“Providing excellent IAQ remains a top priority for us, and having solutions that already meet the upcoming standards is beneficial to both contractors and end users,” said Ellison. “While most changes to meet UL60335 certification will go unnoticed by the end user, these updates to our equipment help ensure the highest level of safety for our products while also positioning us to improve and expand our current product lines.”
